Social Media in School

Studies have shown that over 75% of students are using a social media website of some kind. Most schools ban students from getting on facebook, twitter, etc. during the school hours. Social media could be used in schools so students can ask each other questions about. There are ways to incorporate social networking tools in class. It could be used for online assignments that can be done at school or at home. This will encourage students to interact with each other, and be focused on schoolwork at the same time. Using social media sites in school will mix education and social development, which is what most school are wanting. Most students will be motivated to know they can help their friends with schoolwork, but have a social life as well.
There are many positive reasons to use social media in school one of those things is getting the parents engaged in the activities the class is doing. Also, it would help to keep them informed of the upcoming events. It may even help the students get there work done or be a reminder because most students go online at night. If they are already online then they will probably remember to do their schoolwork. The shy kids in class might feel more comfortable knowing that they can contribute to the class discussion by typing it out then having to announce it to the class. It is also a quick and easy way to make up your schoolwork if you are absent for the day because you will be involved in the class discussion. Overall, social media in school has many benefits and it should at least be considered by many schools.

  1. I figured more people would be using social media than 75%, even though that's a lot too. I never thought about how using social media will mix education and social development, so that was good thinking!

  3. I also agree with Nikki, but I also agree that social media networks will help make the shy kids feel like they're doing something.
